Nearly 2,000 Gates residences now have access to ultra-high-speed fiber optic Internet from Greenlight
Rochester, NY- June 17, 2019 – Greenlight Networks, the fastest fiber-to-the-home provider in New York State, announced today that its high-speed fiber-optic network is now live in three districts in Gates. A total of 1,982 homes in Gates can now get Internet speeds up to 2 Gigabits per second, which is five times faster than most Rochesterians have access to today.
Gates Ford, Matilda and Shadywood became among the first Greenlight districts to go live with Greenlight fiber-to-the-home in Gates (see attached map). The Gates Ford Greenlight district encompasses homes from Gates-Greece Townline Road to Spencerport Road between Vendome Dr S and Long Pond. Gates Matilda extends from Tolley Blvd to Spencerport Rd between Long Pond and Route 390. Gates Shadywood runs from Lyell Rd to Route 490 and covers homes between Wegman Rd and Route 390.
“We’re excited to have our blazingly fast Internet service up-and-running in parts of Gates and are actively installing customers in these neighborhoods today,” said Mark Murphy, president of Greenlight Networks. “Connecting our fiber-optic network directly to our customers’ homes provides for the highest possible Internet performance and has been proven to increase a home’s value.”
Building Greenlight’s fiber network involves significant design, planning and construction work to lay hundreds of miles of new fiber-optic cable, which supports much higher data transmission speeds than traditional networks.
“It’s amazing technology and although the build process is arduous, we are working hard to connect more and more homes directly to our fiber network every day,” explained Murphy. “We appreciate the patience of the residents of Gates while we continue to build out our network to reach additional neighborhoods.”
Greenlight worked with several departments within the Town of Gates during the construction process to help facilitate its expansion into Gates.
“I’m very excited that Greenlight is finally up and running here in our town,” said Cosmo Giunta, Gates Town Supervisor. “This gives our residents and business owners an additional option for their internet needs and may draw potential new residents and businesses to move into the town because of the fiber optic services Greenlight provides.”
In addition to Gates, Greenlight Networks is currently serving a number of municipalities in Monroe county, including portions of Brighton, East Rochester, Fairport, Greece, Henrietta, Irondequoit, Penfield, Pittsford, Rochester, Webster and West Henrietta.
