HBO Max is the latest streaming service to compete for your binge time. Launching May 27th, it will feature a combination of legacy TV Shows, movies and original programming for $14.99/month.
HBO Now subscribers that are billed directly through HBO will automatically be upgraded to HBO Max. If you are being billed through a third party (iTunes, Amazon etc), you will not be upgraded.
The biggest question people have about the platform name change is what is the difference between HBO Go, HBO Now and HBO Max? The biggest difference is what you stream.
HBO Max
A stand-alone streaming platform where you can stream all of HBO along with new Max Originals and iconic series and blockbuster movies from WarnerMedia’s characters and brands.
HBO NOW / HBO GO
Are your options for streaming standard HBO content, including every season and every episode of your favorite HBO original series, hit movies, award-winning specials, and more. The difference between HBO Go and HBO NOW is HBO NOW is a standalone streaming service that you did not need a cable subscription for. HBO GO is for streaming option for HBO cable subscribers. You can access it with your cable provider log in information. You will not have access to HBO Max original programming as well as any additional content from Warner Media with HBO GO or HBO NOW.
Top of the list of what will be featured on HBO Max is the popular TV show Friends. Every episode will be available at launch, with the highly anticipated Friends reunion coming later this year.
Joining Friends will be the entire HBO Catalogue including Game of Thrones, Westworld, Sopranos, The Wire, Barry among many more. Because HBO is owned by Warner Media, subscribers will also have access to movies and TV shows from the Warner Bros library. This includes content from DC, CNN, TNT, Cartoon Network, Looney Tunes and more.
